whew!

yesterday i had my formal interview. i can’t say that it was what i expected exactly, but i was also happy with the way that it went. it focused around the issues that i thought it would, and i felt confident in my answers. i got confirmation throughout, and most importantly afterward.

i didn’t expect to sleep well, but i was pretty exhausted mentally. i started my day without thinking about it much, and tried to go about my day like any other.

on tuesday mornings, i’m part of a conference call led by ted that all of the engineers are on. my honest hope was that i would get word early in the morning, and that we could bring it up on our conference call.

well, that didn’t happen. ok, no problem-i can deal.

i think about an hour went by, and then i got a call from ted. yay, right? well, not so much. i missed his call :/ luckily, he left a voicemail. unfortuntely, it didn’t give me any details. all i knew is that he wanted to follow up on yesterday’s interview. eh…

i called back and got ted’s voicemail and left him a message, and then i waited…

about an hour went by, so i decided to call again. this time i got voicemail again, but i chose not to leave a message.

a little bit later i was on the phone with an engineer and noticed that my voicemail indicator light was lit up again. ugh! tell me i didn’t miss his call again. well, i did (thanks, dave!). luckily, for me and the sake of my nerves, ted decided to leave me a more detailed message. by this point i went from feeling really good, and thinking that the interview was strong enough to secure the offer to thinking that i wasn’t going to get it. my stomach was absolutely churning. ted started off by telling me that he and steve had a chance to talk last night, and that they were impressed with my interview…

“oh man”…”oh man, i’m not going to get it”…”oh no! ok, calm down”…

and that they would like to move forward and extend the position to me.

“yes! yes! yes!”

“dy-no-mite!”

whew. ok, so what does that mean now? well, without getting into details that no one will care about; there is some typical HR-type of red tape to go through, and once that has been done, an official offer can be made. once that happens, we can iron out the details and i’ll be officially official. i don’t think i’ll be satisfied until we’re living in phoenix and i’m getting paid as an engineer. more details to come!

…yes!…
“hey, steve!”

those were the beginnings of a big phone call; a call that i’ve been waiting for.

when we get to phoenix i’ll be working as a field service engineer. my boss will be, ted. ted’s boss is steve. steve called me because all of my peeps (love you guys!!!) in phoenix have been telling ted and steve that they would recommend that i be chosen to fill the open requisition in phoenix for a hematology engineer.

well, today that paid off. steve got down to business and asked me if moving to phoenix to take the open position was what i wanted to do.

ummmm, yeah!

i told steve that if it didn’t work out that it wouldn’t be for lack of effort on my part. i told him that the house was for sale (and has had two showings already!), and that we were prepared to go. he let me know that i had his support and that he would be meeting with his boss in brea, ca; and that he would also tell him about my interest.

ted is on vacation this week, so when he returns, i’m hoping that steve will get a chance to talk to him about it. ted, steven says, will make the final decision, but i’ll tell you; i’m pretty encouraged so far.

i won’t be able to breathe a sigh of relief until it’s officially official that it’s officially official, if you know what i mean. sooo, it’ll be a long weekend and i’ll be anxious at the start of next week until i have the chance to talk to ted about it again. today was a big day, and that call was a very. big. phone. call.

soooo, the house is for sale.

as you may have guessed, this is a necessary step in getting us to phoenix. i mean, i guess we could move while the house was still for sale; but that just seems like a lot of stress.

on monday, jared duncan (our listing agent’s [mike duncan] son) came out and photographed the house. he did a pretty nice job i’d say. by monday evening we were online, but without photos. wednesday morning the photos went online, and within a couple of hours we had a call for our first showing. just this morning we got another call saying that we had a 2nd showing for today.

to say that i’m excited about the start we’re having would be just a bit of an understatement. cummins in columbus is hiring 1,000 people. i’m really thinking that one of them will end up buying our home, but i guess i don’t really care who does. i also think it would be cool to get an offer over what we’re asking to sell our home as furnished. i like our furnishings, but maybe not enough to move them all 1,702 miles.

well, here’s hoping for a quick sale. maybe both people today will put in an offer, and then we could have a bidding war.

ok, so there’s a 1 in a million chance, but a guy can hope, right??

within a two week span i decided to quit my job and move two states away.

mind you, it was technically moving ‘home’ and it was originally just for a month.

then it was for the summer.

then it was for good.

and now it might be phoenix?

first and foremost, me being here, in indiana right now, is slightly confusing still. i don’t like to plan things out. i can’t really plan things out. it never works. and that works for me because i don’t like planning, following plans or sticking to plans. not my thing. so really, it makes perfect sense for me to be here. i woke up one morning, made a few phone calls, the ball started rolling and here i am. wow. i live in indiana. yes, i am too cowardly to formally announce this decision/move to anyone really, but all in due time.

i just moved to a big city where the people are i know are limited to my immediate family. and even then, i have a couple phone numbers and that is it. no idea where they live. basically, i’m on my own here with select guidance from jaime & kevin, who have been complete and total godsends. zero friends (except for a few now). a new job. the open road.

while i am still trying to swallow that, phoenix? arizona? like, the desert and stuff?

okay. i can dig it.

i made a pro’s and con’s list. i won’t share it, but just know that the pro’s completely outweigh the con’s.

am i biting off more than i can chew?

eh. who cares? are you kidding? arizona is incredible!

new life. new places. new friends. new adventures.

there’s that anxious itch again.

constantly checking. constantly reflecting.

just south of indianapolis, we currently reside in Bargersville.

indianapolis is a fantastic city, the population and opportunities constantly expanding, and the culture and livelihood ever-growing. (SuperBowl 2012? What?)

our summers here are spent humid and hot, while our winters are cold and harsh. the consistently flat land welcomes large storms and other varying climate experiences, and our midwestern geographic location makes us the perfect passageway for any occurrence that decides to sweep the nation.

weather aside, our location also gives us central access to several other large areas of the countries. people from all over continually grace us when passing through or using us as a central meeting point so no one has to travel too far.

whether you are a hustling city slicker in indianapolis or down-home country folk from the cornfields, indiana has something for you. and that’s why we like it here. ever-changing. ever-growing. the true crossroads of america.
